If you’re unfamiliar with temp jobs, you may have some questions. The personnel staffing team here at CRG always does their best to answer all of them. We often hear questions about schedules. Are temp jobs part-time? Are they all a typical “9 to 5” job? We have the answers that you’re looking for.
Full-Time Work
Many people who reach out to hiring agencies are looking for full-time work. A significant number of temp jobs have similar schedules to the typical day job, starting early in the morning and ending in the evening. Keep in mind that while some permanent positions may give their employees some leeway and non-traditional schedules, or even some days where they can work from home, a full-time temporary job isn’t likely to digress too much from the nine-to-five grind. Generally you should expect to work around eight hours per day, five days per week. That could change depending on industry though.
Part-Time Work
Certain industries may not need a worker full-time or at the typical time though. Depending on what industry you’re trying to work in, employment recruiters might be able to get you a part-time job that doesn’t fit the typical nine-to-five schedule you might be expecting. Some companies need a worker that can handle things later at night. Others might require you to come in early. This can apply to full-time work as well, of course, but it’s less common. If you’re seeking part-time work through job placement agencies, you may need to be more willing to open up your work hours.
You May Need to Be Flexible
That’s why our biggest suggestion to job seekers is to be flexible. While many full-time temporary positions may take place from nine in the morning to five in the evening, that’s not always the case. If the job is temporary and not a temp to hire position, a work schedule that you’re not used to might not be too jarring of a change. If a job is only going to last a few months and sees you working later or earlier than normal, it may still be worth taking if it’s a good opportunity that can help you build your resume.
The same goes for part-time jobs. If you haven’t worked the night shift before there might be an adjustment, but if it’s good experience and pay a temporary opportunity that keeps you at the workplace after hours can pay off in other ways later. Don’t pass up on something just because it’s part time or the hours are different than you expected.
In some cases, workers even tell us what kinds of hours they’re looking to work and we try our best to accommodate them. If you want to be part-time, work the night shift, or have any other preferences, we can help!
